Full Stack Web Developer

Educake is an award-winning and rapidly growing educational technology business providing online teaching and learning resources to hundreds of thousands of teachers and students around the world.

We’re looking for a Full Stack Web Developer to join us and help produce the very best education technology resources for teachers and students, in all stages of web development.

You’re a great match if you are a smart all-rounder with experience of building web applications in PHP, equally at home on back-end optimisation and efficiency as on UX at the front-end.

  • Location: Oxford, UK
  • Salary: £35-50k
  • Hours: 9-5 weekdays
  • Holiday: 27 days plus bank holidays

You will improve and maintain the Educake web application:

  • Work with existing users and the team to design new features
  • Work on optimizations, identify and remove performance bottlenecks
  • Document all the work you do in a clear way
  • Maintain quality and ensure responsiveness of applications
  • Understand and implement security and data protection solutions
  • Write unit tests for your own code
  • Spend half a day a week on customer support on phone, online chat and email so you have a great understanding of our users' needs
  • Stay up to date on relevant technologies, understand trends and opportunities that ensure we are using the best techniques and tools

You will have:

  • Expert knowledge of PHP and MySQL
  • Expert knowledge of HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, jQuery, AJAX, JSON
  • Great understanding of principles of developing scalable web platforms (code optimization, performance tuning, database normalisation, query optimisation)
  • MVC Framework experience
  • Experience of responsive design
  • A good understanding of version control with Git
  • Experience using and developing REST APIs
  • Excellent communication and social skills
  • Excellent written and spoken English

Ideally, you will also have:

  • Experience with Zend Framework
  • AWS server management
  • Experience with Redis or Memcache
  • IT degree
  • Experience of developing, deploying and maintaining high volume production web applications and/or web API services
