Description

Data is transforming the way we live, conduct business and do research. The tidal wave of information is causing a surge in the number of people who do “data science,” but there is one big problem: the ways in which research is recorded and shared have not kept up. As a result, poorly documented results are cluttering the scientific literature and are leading to confusion, wasted time and resources, and costly errors due to lack of reproducibility.

Methodicate is an innovative project started by three Oxford scientists that aims to accelerate the pace of research by bringing order to the world of data science. To tackle this problem, we have built a one-of-a-kind platform for research communication and collaboration that helps researchers produce their best work faster, without compromising on reproducibility, by automatically tracking their work and facilitating communication throughout the journey from discovery to publication. To accomplish this, we have built a complex but purpose-built technology stack consisting of a number of loosely coupled microservices combining git, node.js, RabbitMQ and MySQL (amongst others), all hosted on AWS.

We are now looking for an enthusiastic backend developer to help us with further evolving Methodicate into a robust enterprise application. The technological challenges we face require curiosity and a flexible mindset. Experience in designing and building systems that are in production is a big plus, as is familiarity with at least some of the technologies we employ. But even more important is an ability to solve problems on the spot and a willingness to learn. If this sounds like you, then we want to hear from you!
